“I wish compassion was learned in church”

September 15th, 2011 by Renee Pettinger

Last week Dr. John Fuder, professor of Urban Studies at Moody Theological Seminary, spoke at Christ Community Church in Aurora, IL as a part of their Community Impact weekend.  Listening to this took me back more than ten years when I sat in my first Urban Ministry class, listening to Dr. Fuder’s stories about “Green Eyes” and learning about the history of the Church in the city.  As a student I had yet to fully appreciate what Fuder means when he says, “I wish compassion was learned in church.”  Listen and be encouraged to spend yourself on behalf of others, learning by doing – in the trenches and in the streets.
